The Work

Three features. Handled properly.

Every service starts with a mapping session you approve before a single needle is opened. If the shape is not right on paper, it will not be right on skin — so we take the time there.

Healed, not fresh

Judge any artist on week six.

Fresh work photographs beautifully and tells you almost nothing. Pigment darkens, peels, and settles to roughly 60–70 % of day-one intensity. Every result shown here is photographed after the perfecting session — that is the number that matters.

  1. 01

Colour theory, not a cataloguePigments are mixed against your undertone and Fitzpatrick type so brows heal warm, never grey or mauve.

  2. 02

Depth disciplineToo deep migrates and blurs; too shallow vanishes. Correct depth is the whole craft.

  3. 03

Built for your face at restMapping follows your own bone structure and brow muscle — not a stencil that flatters a stranger.

How it goes

Four appointments' worth of care, two visits.

Step 01

Consultation

Twenty minutes, free, in person or over video. Skin type, medication and history reviewed, expectations set honestly — including when the answer is no.

Step 02

Mapping & colour

Shape drawn and measured on your face, pigment mixed against your undertone. Nothing begins until you look in the mirror and agree.

Step 03

The session

Topical anaesthetic before and throughout, single-use sterile cartridges, two to three and a half hours depending on service.

Step 04

Healing & perfecting

Seven to ten days of light flaking, full settling by week four to six, then your included perfecting session to adjust density and shape.

The artist

Khana

Trained and certified across four countries — the United States, Russia, Azerbaijan and the UAE — and now working out of a private suite on South Winchester Boulevard in San Jose. Four schools mean four sets of habits; what survived is a technique built around restraint.

Most clients arrive after a bad experience somewhere else: brows too dark, too high, too grey, or a shape borrowed from whoever was trending that year. The fix is rarely more pigment. It is better mapping, a warmer mix, and a lighter hand.

Competition work at Etalon Mix LA 2025 keeps the standard honest — judged on healed symmetry and colour retention, which is exactly what a client should be judging too.

“Permanent makeup should be the thing nobody can name. They will tell you that you look rested. They will not tell you that you look done.”

Preparation & aftercare

Half the result is what you do at home.

Read this before you book. If any of it is impossible for the next two weeks of your life, move the appointment — the pigment does not negotiate.

Before your appointment

  • 48 hours: no alcohol, no blood thinners, no fish oil or high-dose vitamin E. They cause bleeding, and bleeding pushes pigment back out.
  • Morning of: skip caffeine. It thins blood and makes you fidget for three hours.
  • 2 weeks: stop retinol, AHA/BHA acids and chemical peels anywhere near the treatment area.
  • 2 weeks: no tanning, sunburn or heavy sun on the face. Compromised skin does not hold pigment.
  • Botox: at least 2 weeks before, or wait 4 weeks after — it moves the brow and ruins mapping.
  • 3 days: no waxing, threading or tinting the brows.
  • Lips only: if you are prone to cold sores, ask your doctor about antiviral prophylaxis. The procedure reliably triggers an outbreak without it.
  • Not a candidate: pregnant or nursing, Accutane within 12 months, active eczema or psoriasis in the area, keloid-prone, undergoing chemotherapy, or on blood thinners without written clearance.

After your appointment

  • First 4 hours: blot lymph gently with a clean damp pad every 20–30 minutes. Left to dry, it forms the thick scab you do not want.
  • Days 1–10: a rice-grain of barrier ointment, twice daily, thin. Smothering it suffocates the skin and lifts pigment.
  • Do not pick. The flaking will be itchy and uneven and will tempt you. Every piece you pull takes pigment with it and can scar.
  • 10 days: no swimming pools, sauna, steam room, hot yoga or long hot showers on the face.
  • 7 days: no heavy sweating. Sweat is salt, and salt lifts fresh pigment.
  • Sleep on your back if you can manage it, especially after lips.
  • No makeup over the area until it has fully flaked — roughly 10 days.
  • Forever after: SPF 30+ daily once healed. Sun is the single biggest cause of premature fading and colour shift.

Questions

The ones worth asking.

How long does it actually last?

One to three years before a colour boost. The spread is not vague marketing — it is skin. Oily skin fades fastest because higher cell turnover pushes pigment out; dry, less sun-exposed skin holds longest. Daily acids, retinol and sun exposure all shorten it. Nobody can promise you a number without seeing your skin.

Does it hurt?

Topical anaesthetic goes on before we start and is reapplied throughout. Most clients describe it as a two to four out of ten — tolerable enough that people routinely fall asleep during brow sessions. Lips are the most sensitive of the three. Being on your period lowers your pain threshold noticeably, so schedule around it if you can.

How bad is the downtime?

There is no true downtime, but there is an awkward week. Days one to five the colour sits roughly 30–40 % darker and sharper than the healed result. Days five to ten it flakes. Around day ten to fourteen it can look patchy or unexpectedly light — this is normal and it is not the final result. Everything settles by week four to six, which is exactly why the perfecting session is booked then and not before.

Will it turn blue or grey like my mother's?

That look comes from two things, neither of which is used here: old carbon-based tattoo ink, and pigment implanted too deep into the dermis where the body reads it through more tissue and it reads cool. Modern iron-oxide PMU pigments at correct depth fade warmer and lighter — they soften rather than shift. Colour theory matters most on clients with cool undertones, which is where a warm corrective base gets mixed in from the start.

Can you fix work from another artist?

Often, yes — but never sight-unseen. Send clear photos in daylight without makeup, or come in for a consultation. Old work that is too dark, too saturated or badly shaped sometimes needs saline or laser removal first, and a few sessions of that, before anything new goes on top. Being told honestly that you need removal first is a better outcome than being sold a cover-up that traps you.

What about deposits and rescheduling?

A $100 deposit holds your slot and comes off the price of the service. Reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice and it moves with you. Under 48 hours or a no-show and it is forfeited — a PMU appointment is a three-hour block that cannot be filled at short notice.

Do I need to keep filling my brows in afterwards?

No — that is the point. Healed PMU replaces the daily fill entirely for most clients. What it will not do is replace a full brow-pencil-and-gel evening look, and it should not: the goal is a finished face at seven in the morning, not a permanent version of your going-out makeup.
